Elementary School

The Elementary School program at Cambridge Friends School, which includes grades 1-5, employs a unique blend of teaching styles to ensure that every student finds challenge in their academic work, while continuing to grow as a friend, classmate, and learner.

Special attention is paid to vertical alignment in the Elementary School program at CFS, which ensures that students reinforce learning from previous years, build on it, and begin to lay the groundwork for more complicated work that comes in the years ahead. In this way, students develop a depth of basic concepts and skills, while expanding on them to create a breadth of knowledge in many areas.

Social and emotional development is also a focus during this time. Students are encouraged to explore different aspects of their identities through a variety of social studies lessons, group team-building activities, and larger all-school assemblies like the LGBTQ+ Pride assembly and the MLK assembly. When social conflicts arise, teachers and counselors help the students work through them using a lens of empathy, ensuring that each student is treated by the community with care and warmth.
