Get a Kick out of Sharing

By Noelle Meeke

Get a Kick out of Sharing is back, and this year it promises to be bigger and better than ever! Last year our families collected almost 118 soccer balls. Feedback from the community was amazing. This extraordinary program continues to provide a unique experience for your children. TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) is a powerful concept that we practice every day in our physical education classes, especially during our Team Building Challenges. This concept of team is an integral part of this program. What better way to highlight the importance of working together than your children’s generosity of time, energy, and reaching out to help other children around the world?

As many of you know, this past summer I had the privilege to work at Camp Sizanani in Johannesburg, South Africa. Both African and international counselors work tirelessly together to provide children (10-15 years old) from Soweto with critical life skills they need to make informed decisions specifically related to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This year’s goals are to provide both World Vision and GlobalCampsAfrica with soccer balls, hand pumps, socks, and used sneakers (fourth- through eighth-graders only, and the sneakers must be washed). All supplies will go directly to the children who need them the most. This is amazing teamwork.

The PE department, along with other faculty members, will again participate in a variety of soccer games and activities. The concept is simple: bring a soccer ball to donate after the activities and be prepared to have fun.
