Community Service Learning

The Community Service Learning Program provides a place for students and teachers to act on the Quaker commitment to social justice, peace, and humanitarian service. It offers a way for students to understand and act on the principle that they are part of a larger community and must be conscious of their relationship to it. The focus of the Community Service Learning Program comes from the students and from classroom discussions. Through their community service work, students and families have helped improve communities throughout the world. Their efforts include:

  • harvesting and washing vegetables at the Waltham Fields Community Farm
  • raising money through a bake sale for the American Friends Service Committee and Doctors Without Borders
  • sorting canned goods at a Washington, D.C., food bank

  • baking bread for a local soup kitchen
  • designing and selling CFS t-shirts to benefit the Ramallah Friends School
  • collecting toiletries for people living in Iraq
  • volunteering at a neighborhood retirement home
  • serving as docents at the exhibit “Quiet Helpers” at the Boston Public Library, sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee
