Tuition Assistance

Tuition at independent schools can be expensive, but we offer specialized educational services that benefit students directly. Families who sacrifice to afford our education for their children believe that the investment is one that they can't afford not to make, since it is an investment in their children's future. Providing access to our school for all families, regardless of finances, has been a goal of CFS since its founding. Currently, approximately 23.3 percent of our students receive aid, with the average grant approximately 76 percent of tuition. Families in need of financial assistance are encouraged to apply.

General Guidelines

  • Tuition assistance awards are given to kindergarten through eighth grade students.
  • Consideration for financial aid is made after a student has been accepted, and is not part of the admission decision.
  • Tuition assistance awards are based solely on need, not on academic, athletic, or artistic performance.
  • Awards are made for one year only. Families who wish to continue to receive aid must apply annually.
  • A family that has not settled its obligation for the current year will be ineligible to receive an award for the following year.
  • To receive an award, a family must complete all required paperwork (which includes a copy of the current and previous year's and W-2's 1040 tax forms) in a timely manner. This paperwork will be examined to verify that the family is using all available resources to pay for the cost of education. An award must not subsidize discretionary expenses such as those related to business venture or lifestyle. Neither should it subsidize a choice not to work by a parent with no dependents at home during the school day.
  • CFS uses the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) which is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Please click here for an application. We are school number 2014. Please contact the admission office at 617-354-3880 for a paper copy.

  • First priority is given to making awards to enrolled students already receiving aid. Second priority is to enrolled students not currently receiving aid. Third priority is given to incoming siblings, and lastly are students admitted for the next school year. Priority is also given to those students in all groups who will diversify the student body in accordance with the mission of the school.
  • In those cases when parents are not living together, the resources of the non-custodial parent will be considered in establishing the family's level of need, as will the resources of the custodial parent.
  • All financial information and awards are kept strictly confidential.

Payment Plans

Cambridge Friends School provides three avenues for tuition payment.

  • Families may pay all tuition by July 1 for the following year and receive a 1% discount.
  • Tuition may be paid in two installments, due on July 1 and February 1.
  • The school offers an option to pay in ten monthly installments, commencing on May 1 through a plan arranged with the FACTS Management Company.
